Letter from Lothar - June inSight
Welcome to our newest edition of inSight.
Phew…..what a busy couple of weeks behind us, but before we head off for even more conferences, meetings, events and presentations, I am taking a little break to keep you updated.
Like many of our readers, the Cargo iQ management team went to Istanbul a few weeks ago to participate in the largest ever IATA World Cargo Symposium. As usual, we combined this event with our regular Board Meeting and Annual General Membership meeting.
For the Board meeting, we prepared a busy agenda by providing the Board members with a detailed update on the important work the sub-working groups have done in recent months, marketing activities and an overview of our financial situation.
Board members prepared the agenda for the AGM, which included the recommendation for a board restructuring as well as a review of the candidates for the Board seats. Members then had the chance to appoint the new board. Due to a matching number of candidates and positions, there was no need for a formal voting process.
But the most important part was the proposal to provide a permanent seat for the Director Generals of FIATA and ASA as observers to the Board. With this, we expect a much closer cooperation with these two global organizations as members of both associations are striving for standardization and quality improvements, just like Cargo iQ. The feedback received from our members about this collaboration was overwhelmingly positive. This year’s Air Cargo Europe event in Munich was a busy and successful occasion, with plenty of networking opportunities to spread the word about Cargo iQ’s latest work. Hot off the press is the result of the Chair/Vice-chair election within the Cargo iQ Board. The newly elected Chair is Ms. Kerstin Strauss (Kuehne + Nagel). The Vice-Chair position will be filled by Mr. Rutger-Jan Pegels (KLM/AF).
I know I speak on behalf of the entire Cargo iQ Board, the Cargo iQ members and the Cargo iQ Management Team by expressing our gratitude to the outgoing Chair Mr. Henrik Ambak for his leadership during the last few years at the helm of the Cargo iQ organization. We are very pleased that we can continue to rely on his expertise and guidance in the future as representative of Emirates Airlines. I look forward to seeing my industry colleagues again very soon at the IATA CNS Partnership Conference next week.
